March 4, 2022

Dear Dr. Jayanti Ravi, dear Shri R.N. Ravi, dear members of the Governing Board,

Auroville’s “birthday week” has just passed and it is the second year that many members of the international Auroville family could not come to physically join the festive events, either due to Covid restrictions or because they are planning their annual visit for August this year, when Sri Aurobindo’s 150th anniversary will be celebrated.

Some have taken the opportunity to listen to the webinars organized by the “La Grace” Center and it was very uplifting to hear Shri R.N. Ravi referring to the fundamental spiritual truth of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the world is one family – as expressed in the Maha Upanishad. This deep ancient truth also represents the foundation of the “Ideal of Human Unity” as elaborated by Sri Aurobindo and is, likewise, the very foundation of Auroville’s formation as an international experiment and laboratory for the next evolutionary step of creation, as envisaged by The Mother.

Members of the Auroville International (AVI) network are considered as and personally feel to be an integral part of this international Auroville experiment. They are fulfilling an important role as carriers of the Auroville flame and spirit into the outside world and at the same time helping Auroville to grow by providing substantial funds as well as by advising and supporting “youth of all ages” who are wanting to volunteer or settle in Auroville.

It is therefore of great importance that we can give clear advice when answering questions about the conditions for volunteering or permanent stays. Dr. Karan Singh has recently mentioned the tension and even panic in Auroville because visas may be disturbed. We join him in expressing our deep concern about the confusion and lack of clarity about the issuing of visas to foreign nationals and volunteers in Auroville.

We sincerely hope to receive a clear visa policy as this clarity will facilitate the conditions for people who want to take part in the Auroville adventure. Also this clarity will help people to focus on what The Mother in all Her wisdom and farsightedness stipulated as the condition for joining Auroville: “To be a willing servitor of the Divine consciousness”.

In Mother’s Grace and Love,
Yours faithfully,
Christian Feuillette, Chairman, Auroville International
Friederike Muehlhans, Secretary, Auroville International
