Aranya is a reforestation site and educational centre located about 12 kms north-west of Puducherry in the proximity of Ousteri Lake. It encompasses 45 hectares of plateau and an area of ravines and gullies. Since 1994 work has been in progress to restore the coastal Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest (TDEF) on the site. Today Aranya has a reputation as a living laboratory of evolution attracting students of nature sciences and acting as a site for informal discussion for nature clubs, eco-clubs with children, etc.
