Instructions to change an existing Thunderbird setup.

Start Thunderbird mail program. You can click START button, then go to ALL PROGRAMS, and then click MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD.


  1. Thunderbird takes you straight to your Inbox. Click on "Edit" and go to "Account Setting.

  2. In the new window, locate your current account in the left frame.

  3. Update your name if you need to.
  4. Update your email address: username@auroville.org.in (replace username with your username).
  5. Click "Server Settings" as shown below and update Server Name and User Name (your email).

  6. Click as in sequence shown below with the arrows and make sure your SMTP server neme is same as on this picture.

  7. Make sure there's a check mark next to "Use name...". Enter your email address intoUser Name: username@auroville.org.in (replace username with your username)
  8. Click OK button in the small and OK then in the big window.
  9. You are now looking at your reconfigured email.
  10. If you are connected to the Internet you can collect your mail by clicking "Get Mail" button Image:Email6.png on the panel of Thunderbird. If the setup is done right then you should be getting no error messages and maybe a few new emails if there are any on your email server.
  11. Email yourself a test message (create it by clicking "Write" button) to make sure you can send out messages (by clicking "Send" button after entering recipient's email address in "To" filed).
  12. You might get a window asking you to enter a password. Please enter your email password and put a check mark in the box next to "Remember password".
  13. Then make sure you get it a few minutes later (repeat Step 12 to get mail manually). 
  14. You are done!  :)
