Talk:Green Buildings
From Auroville Wiki
After talks with Manfred and Dorothee about initiating an information exchange platform in Auroville for Green Buildings I think the best way to do this would be to start with an informal gathering once a month.
The group can be called the Auroville Green Building Group (GBG) and would be open for everybody to participate in, preferably people who have actually got some green building experience, and are not just paying lip-service to it! :-)
There are actually already some really good examples of Green Buildings in Auroville and it would be good to have the people who have designed, built and live in these houses on board.
A GBG meeting would be held once a month, e.g. on the first Friday of each month, at 2 pm at ............. (always same location; preferably a truly 'green' building).
The informal gathering would have a loose agenda of information exchange on where to get 'green' building materials, the latest on green building standards, who are the 'people-in-the-know' in Auroville concerning Green Buildings, etc.
This Wiki could be used as a place where the information gets collected and stored, accessible for everybody.
What do you think of this idea?

I think its a wonderful idea! I would like to build in a more green way but am very frustrated by the amount of energy it takes to find out about different methods of construction, material etc. It also seems to me that in Auroville (and maybe in most other places) 'green building' = 'self building' which I don't have time to do. I know very little about how to build and am not so interested in the construction details. Even if I hire a builder they rarely understand about the nature of green building and need a lot of support during the construction which I don't feel qualified to give. I expect if I was willing to pay a LOT of money I could probably find someone, but I don't have a lot of money either. Is there anyone in Auroville who would like to start a green building unit???
Until that happens it will be very useful to have information about green building here.
