Timings and Locations

Nandini Distribution is located in Prosperity area with Free store and PTDC

Opening: Morning Tue to Sat from 9h to 12.30h Afternoon Tue and Fri from 2.30h to 4.30pm                                                                Closed every first Mo and Tue of each month for shopping

Nandini Tailoring Service is located in Aurosarjan building ( Auroshilpam area)

 Opening: Tue, Thu, Sat : 9 to 12.30 pm Afternoons : 3 to 5 pm
 Last week of each month no new order taken

General Information and Background

In Hindu mythology 'Nandini' is the 'cow, of Abundance', and the Nandini service wants keep this aspect of generosity. The service has been created in 1994 out of a real collective need to develop an in-kind economy Nandini is providing a good variety of clothing and household goods to Aurovilians and Newcomers who choose to participate in the service and to youth and children under the C.F. maintenances or covered by their own family.The service has two sections:

the Distribution  provides a choice of good quality of ready made items ( garments, accessories and house hold )

the Tailoring section stitches the individual request in copying your own sample or selecting from Nandini collection as well as house hold items according to your measures .

Members and Affiliations

The monthly contributions received from 700 individuals, children and youth constitute the regular collective budget of Nandini which is functioning as a cooperative. The Aurovilians take what they need, keeping in mind the spirit of sharing the budget and the items proposed as in a big family. Nandini is not a shop so you don`t come to buy and you can’t expect the same choice as in a big city.
Through "Prosperity"and "New Scheme "Nandini is affiliated with Pour Tous Distribution Centre, Solar Kitchen, Health Fund and Dental Clinic.
