Transit Lounge visit Tuesday May 25th to “the living house”

Architect & builder- Ajay Nityananda kindly showed us around his home that he shares with of his partner and two children.

This 1000 sq feet home includes kitchen, living room and sleeping spaces with a beautiful toilet, attached by a bamboo and rope bridge, that crosses a sunken pool. The two main structures look out on a court yard area with fitted seating. All structures are made of natural materials and took 9 months to complete.

Ajay has designed a smaller prototype for the Transit Lounge which would be suitable for self build. While the structure is not dis-mountable it is dismantle able and completion time could also be speeded up considerably if components were made off site and delivered ready to erect.

Materials used: mud brick. eucalyptus and kalimadu wood, Bamboo, mud, cow dung and straw roofing.

Cost: Between 1,500rs – 2,000rs per sq ft
