How to make a fence
Wire fence:
- Calculate one pillar for very 2 to 3 meter fence. Get granite pillars 5, 6, or 7 feet long or make precast RCC pillars (so with steel rods {2/3 x 6/8mm} inside and pvc-pipe holes) any lenght. for every 90 degree corner add 2 extra shorter pillars for supports /|\ . The same for strecher longer then 9 pillars.
- Calculate the lenght of wires needed: use 1 every 30 cm height. Buy (plain) main wire of 4mm thickness = 8 gauge G.I. galvanized iron plus binding wire of 1.2 mm = 18 gauge G.I. This will last more then 12 years, less will rust through easily.
Now mark the post positions yourself in the field with chalk powder /sticks or stones - use a long measuring tape (15 or 25m). Be sure your AV neighbours agree with your ideas. If there is private or perumbroke land next door get LRM people to confirm the boundaries first! - Make a contract for the work: digging all the holes (1-2 feet deep/ simple). Then placing the pillars; they are heavy: get old 2 or 3 old cycle tyres plus poles and 4 to 6 [or 8] men to lift them). Lastly fixing the wires: this is slow, simple but precise work: a metal hook can be used to tighten the binding wires.
Live fence addition:
Dig small holes in between the posts every 1 meter and also about 1 meter away from the fence inside (compost accelerates the growth but is optional) .Get thorn plants from the wild or from Shakti nursery. Don't use the "sottu mullu": it grows too fast and wild. The best are the ones with long or double thorns. The plants have to be watered the first month. It will take about 5 years to get a nice live fence .
