>

Is the AV Wiki meant to replace the AVNet?

The current wiki based on MediaWiki software cannot replace all the features of the AVnet like Groups, Directory, etc. Also MediaWiki is not designed for fast moving content like Events / Annoucements etc which is a typical requirement of an Intranet. Wiki can do it but that is not the ideal use. This wiki excells where the content of a page evolves over a period of time and many people work toghether to create it. It is not so much concerned about building relationship between people like a social networking software. Wiki has focus on the content, not people. Another issue is various levels of access rights, a well developed intranets require more advance access permission system for various working groups which is lacking in the MediaWiki. So it is not possible to replace AVnet with this wiki. However if the wiki approach is successful we can go for more complex wiki software that can entirely replace AVnet. At present a new version of AVnet is in the making which is planning to use Drupal (http://www.drupal.org) an open source CMS. Wiki feature for some selected content is an option in it.

Our extranet ( http://www.auroville.org ), which is a simple collection of pages, can easily be replaced by this wiki.

How do we know if the information contained in these pages is 'true', accurate and/or up-to-date?

If there is false information or inaccuracy it is likely to be noticed by someone who knows the topic and since everyone is an editor it is likely to be corrected or pointed out. You can see this dynamics already at work in the few pages that are already there in our wiki. However there is no formal way to know how true, accurate or up to date the information is. You can see who edited a page last and on which date and based on that and your commonsense you have to decide!
