Auroville Institute of Applied Technology (AIAT) is a not-for-profit vocational training institute serving students in the villages in the bioregion of Auroville. AIAT follows an holistic approach in imparting knowledge, in the sense that apart from training for a vocation, we impart training in personality development, human relationships, and social and environmental responsibility. Our training is value-oriented and based on the Human Unity ideals of Auroville.

AIAT offers National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) approved two-year Industrial Training in Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication. The Tamil Nadu Government recognizes our one-year trainings in Secretarial Practice and Accounting, Computer Hardware and Software Maintenance, Data Processing and Computer Applications, and General Electronics. In addition to the Government syllabus, AIAT offers to all students courses in spoken English, communication, social responsibility, health care, yoga and sports.

Along with the main centre in Koot Road, AIAT has a branch in Nadukuppam which offers computer courses as well as courses in modern office management, conducted in cooperation with Pitchandikulam Forest.

History

AIAT was started by Karin Latzke and Lavkamad Chandra in 2004. Over the years there has been a shift in focus from computer-oriented training to engineer-oriented training.
